Karnataka Nair Service Society

You are on the official web page of Karnataka Nair Service Society (KNNS), the largest Malayali community organization outside Kerala and one of the strongest socio-cultural organizations in Bangalore.

Nair Community & Nairs in Karnataka

There is hardly any authentic information to show when Nairs of Kerala first moved and settled in Karnataka. It is believed that the earliest migration began during the journey of Shankaracharya towards the north, accompanied by a Raja of Kerala along with his Nair militia and servants.

Many settled in regions such as Sringeri, Shimoga and later Bangalore. Interviews with first-generation settlers reveal that large-scale migration occurred during pre-independence days in search of opportunity.
